5% Nixodine Disposables: What the Label Means

A trade name, a strength figure, and the same hardware as the nicotine edition

6 min read

Key Takeaways

  • Nixodine is a trade name for a lab-made compound, (S)-6-methylnicotine, that is related to nicotine but is not nicotine.
  • A "5% Nixodine" label means the e-liquid is 5% Nixodine by the maker's measure, the same figure its 5% nicotine sibling carries.
  • The hardware does not change: the Fifty Bar 20K Nixodine is still 20,000 puffs from 18 mL on an 800mAh battery.
  • Since April 14, 2022 the FDA regulates nicotine from any source; whether that reaches 6-methylnicotine is a question regulators have not settled.

Nixodine is a trade name for an e-liquid formula built on (S)-6-methylnicotine, a synthetic compound related to nicotine that is not itself nicotine. A "5% Nixodine" label tells you the strength of that compound in the e-liquid, in the same place and format the 5% figure sits on the nicotine version of the same device. Everything else on the box, from the puff rating to the battery, is unchanged.

What Nixodine Is

The compound in a Nixodine e-liquid is 6-methylnicotine, which researchers describe as a synthetic nicotine analog: a molecule built in a lab with one structural change from nicotine, a methyl group at position six. A 2023 preprint by Sven Jordt and colleagues, later published in Tobacco Control, was among the first to document the compound in e-cigarette products sold in the United States. The makers sell it under several trade names, and Nixodine is the one on the two devices we carry.

For you, the name on the label means the device is built and filled like its nicotine sibling, but the active compound is a different molecule. It is a compound with its own name, and the label tells you how much of it is in the liquid.

Reading the 5%

On a nicotine disposable, 5% is the amount of nicotine in the e-liquid by the maker's measure. On a Nixodine disposable, 5% is the amount of Nixodine by the same measure. The figure is written the same way, so someone used to a 5% device sees a familiar number on the box. The number is a concentration, not a comparison: a 5% Nixodine label does not claim to be the same experience as a 5% nicotine label, only the same strength figure for a different compound.

You may also see the strength written as "Nixodine 50" rather than "5%". Those are the same label written two ways, the way 50mg and 5% describe the same e-liquid on the salt nicotine shelf. If you see either on a product page, read it as the maker's strength figure for the compound.

The Hardware Is Unchanged

A Nixodine edition is the same device as its nicotine sibling with a different liquid inside. The Fifty Bar 20K Nixodine is rated by Fifty Bar at up to 20,000 puffs from 18 mL, with an 800mAh rechargeable battery, a dual mesh coil, adjustable airflow and USB-C charging. Those are the same figures as the Fifty Bar 20K with nicotine. Fifty Bar describes the device as built in the USA.

The Lost Mary MT35000 Turbo Nixodine follows the same pattern: up to 35,000 puffs from 18 mL on a 1000mAh battery, a dual mesh coil, fixed airflow, a screen and USB-C charging, the same as the Lost Mary MT35000 Turbo with nicotine. If you already know how one of these devices draws and charges, the Nixodine edition will feel identical in the hand.

Where Regulators Stand

Since April 14, 2022, the United States Food and Drug Administration has been authorized to regulate tobacco products containing nicotine from any source, including synthetic nicotine. The Tobacco Control Act does not define the term "nicotine" in scientific terms, so whether a compound like 6-methylnicotine falls inside that authority is a question the FDA decides, and the 2023 preprint says exactly that. Makers of analog products have sold them as outside the premarket process; that is their claim, not a ruling.

States can move on their own. A November 2024 article by Jordt and Jabba reports that California enacted legislation on September 28, 2024 that treats 6-methylnicotine as a form of nicotine under the state's tobacco rules. Other states may follow or may not, and this post makes no claim about where the compound stands anywhere else. Check your own state's rules before you order.

Who a Nixodine Edition Is For

These are adult products, sold to customers 21 and older, and the makers position them for adults who already use nicotine products and want the same device with a different compound inside. We make no claim about how Nixodine feels, how it compares in the body, or what it does over time; nothing on this page is a claim about what the compound does, and the research on the compound is recent. What we can tell you is what the label means and that the hardware is the device you already know.

If you are choosing between editions, start from the device. Pick the Fifty Bar if you want adjustable airflow in a 20,000 puff device; pick the Lost Mary if you want a 35,000 puff rating with a screen. Then choose the edition. Both brand pages, Fifty Bar and Lost Mary, list the nicotine and Nixodine editions side by side.

How to Decide

Pick a 5% Nixodine edition if you want a device you already know, with a different named compound at the same strength figure, and your state has not ruled it out. Pick the 5% nicotine edition if you want a product whose federal status is settled. Pick neither if you are not already an adult nicotine user; these are not starter products.

FAQ

Is Nixodine Nicotine?

No; Nixodine is a trade name for (S)-6-methylnicotine, a lab-made compound related to nicotine but distinct from it.

What Does 5% Nixodine Mean?

It means the e-liquid is 5% Nixodine by the maker's measure, the same strength figure the 5% nicotine edition of the device carries.

Is the Fifty Bar 20K Nixodine the Same Device as the Fifty Bar 20K?

Yes, the same 20,000 puff, 18 mL, 800mAh hardware with a different liquid inside.

Does the FDA Regulate Nixodine?

The FDA has regulated nicotine from any source since April 14, 2022, and whether that authority reaches 6-methylnicotine is a question it has not publicly settled; California has treated it as nicotine under state law since September 2024.
